Random Acts of Kindness During the Raya Season!

Hari Raya Aidilfitri (also known as the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast) is just around the corner. In Malaysia, we celebrate this annual festival regardless of ethnicity. Many people would take this opportunity to spend quality time with their families and loved ones. This religious occasion emphasizes seeking for forgiveness from each other and performing charitable acts. Therefore, as part of the community, are you feeling the need to give back during this festive season?

An act of kindness brings a smile to others. This month, how can we put this into practice and extend our kindness to others? Perhaps you have tried to do so before this, well done! We hope you can share your thoughts with us.

Have a look at the list below and pick at least one to try out!

  • Bake some Raya cookies or cakes and distribute them to the cleaners or security guards at your office.
  • Is your neighbor going out of town during the Hari Raya holidays? Offer to water their plants or feed their pets.
  • Offer a free ride to someone after the Hari Raya open house.
  • Be patient with other road users while you are stuck on the highway when you're travelling during the Hari Raya holiday.
  • Send a Hari Raya wish to your Muslim friends through Whatsapp or Facebook (p/s: it’s free anyway!).
  • Compliment your friends that they look good in their baju Raya.
  • Since you might be getting new clothes for Hari Raya, collect all your old or unused clothes and donate them at the H&M retail stores (p/s: you will get a H&M discount voucher in return as a token of appreciation!).

Take a second to look and be mindful, you will find opportunities to perform random acts of kindness. Every small gesture and interaction with someone can create a positive impact to both of you. Wishing all of you Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and happy holiday!
